Something smells around here…

20 Mar 2009 Posted by in Environment | 3 comments

After ongoing complaints from local residents about the stench from the Strandfontein sewerage works, the Friends of Zeekoevlei and Rondevlei and the Zeekoevlei Civic Association undertook a site visit to the treatment works on 4 March 2009. These pictures are a selection of what they found in the back dunes north and east of the Cape Flats Waste Water Treatment Works (CFWWTW).

From the east looking west - shows sludge lagoon’s proximity to the digesters at the CFWWTW plant.

This is another view of the biggest dump we found. The strong growth along the edges shows that the material is nutrient-rich.

The mission was photographed by your local photographer Derek Main (local is lekker) if you need his contact details call Richard Cammell – he photographs less smelly stuff like weddings, businesses and on.
