Nosa / SABS No Boats Prohibited Descriptive Safety Sign (PR12/D1) Online South Africa,

NOTE that it will NOT be a BOAT BASED CLEANUP ……

We quote from FBNR yesterday “

Big Lotus sewage spill 17 Sept 2020:

There is sewage spill into the Big Lotus River. Victoria & Stephen from our team have been hard at work trying to locate the source of this spill.

Various departments have been involved, they have traced the spill which is due to a blocked sewerage pipe which has flowed over into storm water, therefore reaching Big Lotus. This comes from along Lansdowne – Ottery area.

The departments involved are sorting out the blocked sewerage pipe and bio-enzymes are being used to treat the spill.

We will be conducting drone flights & taking water samples & will feed through the updates as they arrive.

Please steer clear of Zeekoevlei till we have established the condition of the water.

The CoCT is also investigating other possibilities and every one has been encouraged to query the progress on this urgently.

Counting Days to World Cleanup Day 2020 – Waste4Change

With the Vlei being closed, we will still rise as environmental champions and be doing a cleanup!

The details are:

Saturday is World Cleanup Day. In light of the sewerage spill, FOZR is arranging a land based cleanup of litter off the eastern shore starting at 09.00.

Meet at Guard Hut on the Eastern shore, Flowerpecker Road, Pelikan Park https://goo.gl/maps/AHyj6wRaJVY24AAo7 Park at the first parking lot as indicated by rangers.

This will of course prevent the litter from ultimately ending up in the vlei. Security Rangers from the False Bay Nature Reserve will be on site to assist us and to ensure everyone’s safety for anyone concerned. Bags and Gloves will be provided. Bring your fantastic community spirit, EVERYONE is welcome. Lets pull together as the incredible community that we are and get our neighbourhood cleaned up. Lets prove we are worth the RAMSAR status we have been awarded.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Bring the whole family, you can even have a picnic at the picnic site. Please adhere to all covid protocols and wear your masks and practice social distancing.

Thank you everyone!

Sidney – the Wackey walkers will be picking up litter along peninsula road, as we do each Saturday!

This 2nd Sewage spill in as many weeks is totally unacceptable, this makes a total mockery of draw downs and shore line management by Vlei residents.

It is not acceptable for raw sewage to be diverted into an amenity that is being used by many Capetonians, it is the City council’s responsibility to avoid such occurrences.
