Greetings All,

We trust that you are all safe and sound in these unusual circumstances we find ourself in as a country. Tough, but needed to ensure that we are protected as much as possible. Our hearts and wallets go out to the less fortunate out there! It was great to see our residents generously supporting the councillors drive to support the less fortunate…  WELL DONE ALL!

For emphasis, let’s state the obvious ……

  1. Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
  2. Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze
  3. Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell
  4. Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell
  1. Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean
  2. Walk dogs  outside your property.
One of our residents have put the following together so that you do not have to scramble all over the house when something happens –  Thanks to Laurianne Claase…. appreciated.

Zeekoevlei Superette

Zeekoevlei is part of Ward 67 . Our councillor is Gerry Gordon. She is working hard to ensure that the needy in our ward are taken care of during this difficult time. Ms Gordon has identified six areas in our ward in need of food parcels & soup kitchens. Mr & Mrs Kay at the Zeekoevlei Superette are helping with this food collection/donation drive.  There are three ways in which you can contribute:

  1. Cash donations received at the Superette or via EFT into the Kays’ bank account. Councillor Gordon will ensure that cash donations go towards purchasing soup ingredients & gas for the soup kitchens.
    2. R200 cash donation for food hampers, which the Kays will be making up. Each hamper consists of:  tea, sugar, milk, rice, coffee, beans, tinned fish, jam, peanut butter, noodles & margarine.
    3. Or, you can buy groceries & drop them off at Mr Kays.  These are the items needed:

* Rice  * Red dhal  * Split peas  * Tinned beans/legumes  * Dried lentils
* Samp * Soup mix * Soup powders * Stock cubes  * Tinned fish  * Onions  * Potatoes * Carrots * Butternut * Long life milk * Milk powder * Jam* Sugar * Maize meal * Oats * Cooking oil * Pasta  * Tinned/dried fruit

AND  ……. while we are all at home – please check this out …

The City Nature Challenge will go ahead, under lockdown, from our homes, yards and gardens – on 24 to 27 April. Get those phones and cameras out, charged, cleaned and ready to snap away at anything nature – plants, insects, birds, mushrooms, etc. (no pets, though). Photos must be taken on those days to count. Make sure you have the iNaturalist app on your phone or know how to use the website. It’s really very simple. See Click on the Cape Town bar to see our Cape Town lockdown project. *Please help us to get on top of Garden Route! Cape Town wants to be tops.

And please look out for chameleons in your gardens, and moths in your homes, gardens and on walls:  DAYS TO GO

Stay safe all – We will overcome this as a great country …. and an amazing communnity!
