A fire broke out at the Zeekoevlei weir between 16:30 and 17:00 on Sunday, 11 December 2016. The cause of the fire is unclear, however arson is assumed due to the nature of the fires being randomly placed over a vast area.

Five separate fires were successfully extinguished by the City Fire Department and City Nature Conservation staff by 21:00.

Many thanks to all involved – from those that alerted the relative authorities, to those that helped extinguish the fires.
