Thanks to Candice Haskins for the very nice report on Zeekoevlei water quality. It’s good to see consistent improvement – largely to the annual lowering of the weir and the cut-off drain, I’m sure.
Absolutely interesting. The good professor after much scientific research proposed the opening of the wier on 27 April and later the closing of it in September. As can be seen by the report, all forms of pollution and bacterial growth tapered off and the water quality was even better than that of False Bay. Suddenly, the wier was closed earlier last year, causing massive flooding of the rest of the Cape Flats, as well as our lawns and basements on the Zeekeoiveli shoreline, especially in home bay. Is there a moral to this story and the attached report?
