A message from FoZR:

Thank you All for your kind donations last Saturday at the Spring Walk. I am delighted to announce that we raised R590 in donations, which will be dedicated towards the museum renovations. We also got one new family membership. It was wonderful seeing so many people at a FoZR event and as always HUGE thanks to our own iconic Dalton Gibbs for his endlessly interesting information.

There are 2 more events FoZR has organised which are imminent:

a. A talk on frogs (also given by Dalton) at the museum auditorium: Fri 7th September at 19h00 – (we will be taught how to identify species & so much more ….) I am sure Dalton will do is marble in a bottle frog impression, If you ain’t heard it  (or if you have) be there!

b. Walk on Saturday 8th September

Place: Rondevlei main gate
Time: 14:00
Dalton will ferry us across Rondevlei by boat (which will hopefully be working then!).

We are going to walk to the large dune on the southern side of Rondevlei and look for Barbrers Ranger (Kedestes barbarae bunta) – a critically endangered butterfly, found only between Muizenberg & Strandfontein in the whole world. The last known population lies alongside Strandfontein Road and will be destroyed when the road is widened next year. It flights in early September and we hope to find it within suitable habitat in Rondevlei.

People should bring walking shoes that can get wet (for marshy ground, no rivers) and something to drink).

We will be back by 17:30

Please also bookmark Saturday 15th September it will be a fun Barley Corn event with amazing bands – held at the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club – food drink will be on sale, the previous time we held this event it was a big hit and a lot of family fun – Full details nearer to the time
