Notice of Prescribed Ecological Burn

Where: False Bay Nature Reserve, Rondevlei Section, Erica field and reed beds surrounding the fishing platforms (North East corner of the vlei)

Date: April 2013

Please note: • Burning permits will be obtained from the Air Quality Management and Fire Departments.

• We are required by legislation to inform residents around this area of our intention. A seven (7) day period is allowed for objections, closing 28 February 2013.
• The fires will be closely monitored by the Environmental Resource Management Department’s Biodiversity Management staff, the local fire department, as well as Working on Fire volunteers.
• The vegetation type that occurs in this section of the nature reserve is Cape Flats sand fynbos. It needs to burn every 12 to 15 years in order to remove ageing vegetation and to stimulate the growth of soil-stored seeds.
• Residents are requested to close their windows and refrain from hanging laundry outside on the days of the burn. The burn will only take place on days with favourable weather conditions. The weather will be monitored for these conditions and residents will be notified prior to the burn.

I know the date on the notice says the 28th, they did a letter drop to the areas immediately surrounding the burn site. The legal department would like to see it sent via an email. If you have comments please email Mogamat.Samsodien@capetown.gov.za you can reply with comments and objections and he will send it off the air pollution control.
